Plugin Manager issues

Written by Franz

Requirements

  • Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator CC 2022 or more recent

  • Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app installed — and sSigned in with your Adobe credentials (required for the Photoshop UXP plugin)

  • macOS 10.15 Catalina or later

  • Windows 10 or later — x86/x64 CPUs only (Windows on ARM is not supported)

Troubleshooting

"Network Error"

Ensure local services used by Fontself and Adobe plugin communication are allowed. In your filtered networks, VPN, proxy or firewall settings:

  • Allow outbound HTTP/HTTPS traffic on ports 80 and 443 for these URLs

    • *.fontself.com

    • *.cloudfront.net
To make sure this URL works fine, just open this link in your browser: it should display an emoji 😏

  • Whitelist ports from 5000 up to 5079 included for this URL

    • 127.0.0.1

  • Allow direct outbound HTTPS traffic to the domains above using Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) / Server Name Indication (SNI) based allowlisting. Do not rely on fixed IP addresses, as these services may use dynamic CDN/cloud infrastructure.

  • Do not block or quarantine downloadable files from Fontself domains.

    • .zip, .ccx, .dmg, .exe, .msi, .tar.gz, or .sig

"UPIA tool UnifiedPluginInstallerAgent is missing"

  • Enterprise, Team and Educational Adobe users must ask their IT administrators to enable Allow end users to install and update plugins from the Creative Cloud desktop app" in the Adobe Admin Console.

"Administrator access required"

- Right-click the manager app and select "Run as administrator"

- Or first move the manager app into a user folder like "Desktop" before running it

The plugin doesn't appear in Photoshop / Illustrator after installing

  • Fully quit and restart the Adobe app (it must be closed during install).

  • In Illustrator, each major release requires re-running the Fontself Plugin Manager.

  • Confirm the app version meets the minimum above.
