What does Fontself do?
Fontself enables people to easily send eye-catching messages by using creative as well as handwritten styled fonts. The fonts offered by Fontself are based on images (bitmaps), so that the visual look of texts renders colors and textures of color pencil, ball pen, watercolor, stabilo, etc.. We think this is the ideal medium to showcase cool, quirky original designs by those who have a talent for creating interesting fonts (read: the non-traditional, non-vector-based kind)
Who are we looking for?
At Fontself we are interested in recruiting talented people, and talent comes in many forms! No matter who you are: a designer, an illustrator, a graffiti artist, a tatoo artist or whatever… if you believe you have one (or hopefully lots more) cool font in you
, please get in touch. Just draw some samples and send them to Fontself or pick some of your favourite designs from that sketch you’ve been doodling on for years. We also like to check our any work you already have published online, so send us links to your website, blogs or online portfolio.
We’ll update this page with more detailed criteria in the future, as we look to beef up our font library with specific styles of fonts.
Where can Fontself fonts be used?
Fontself fonts can already be used on messages that can be posted either directly or indirectly (via HTML) to many social networks and blogging platforms. And soon to come, will be messaging platforms, so stay tuned. Your designs will get seen, used and shared by many users across the world either in the form of blog posts, wall posts, or simply embedded within email messages.

What type of fonts are we looking for?
The list of styles may vary over type, depending on the demands from particular groups of users, or simply by the nature of some of the products into which we are integrating our fonts. The distinction below is a good rule of thumb.
Illustrated fonts
Illustrated fonts are composed of letters, smilies, pictograms and illustrated words. The whole font is based on a specific theme. For instance, animals, music, games, fashion, etc… It means illustrations as well as the font match your chosen theme. Check the “zen_bird” font below to see some items representative of an illustrated font.

Handwritten-styled fonts
This type of font looks like … well, someone’s handwriting. You may create the letters as well as illustrations (e.g. smileys, pictograms and illustrated words). Depending on the illustrations, we value those fonts that strike an interesting contrast between the letters and the special characters. Of course, you may also create an alphabet with only letters.
Graphic fonts
How do I get in touch and what do I send?
Send email samples of your work to: designers@fontself.com (about 10 glyphs or several words per font), so that we can get the overall idea of the design concept you want to explore.
What is the process to formalise our business relationship?
After your initial contact, the process is fairly simple:
- Sampling phase: we review your work to get a feel for the concept you want to develop. You may send links to your website, blogs and other work you may online.
- Approval phase: if we like the concept we’ll contact you to formally request that you create the font for us, discuss business terms and we email you the contracts.
- Ordering phase: once contract is signed, we may order one or several fonts, depending on your samples. You may start start working at this point.
- Production phase: once you deliver the font(s), we review it and sign it off.
- Payment phase: payment is issues. Happy times.
In reality, some of the above can happen in parallel, as it takes time to finalise the paperwork and we know you are eager to start designing
.
